Moose River, Sterling Alaska
One of the popular launch off areas for the Kenai river begins at Moose River in Sterling Alaska. It has a gentle grade into the river, and while busy it does not get as busy as some of the other boat launch areas.
There is a nice hiking trail that follows the rive to the north for a little while, lots of room for shore fishing, and a few pretty nice camping/picnic areas attached to the parking area.
There are also several private parking/camping areas and river guide outfits. Along with boats there is one guide lodge across the river that offers fly in fishing via their aircraft on floats. It is a popular method to get where few others get to go and fish.
This was taken at the beginning of the spring melt, a lot of the snow was dissipating, but there was still plenty around and most of the non-flowing waters were still frozen. Since that time most of the lakes have opened up and the boat trailers and motorbikes are out on the road, Spring is barely here and people are already pushing for Summer to be in full swing.
We should have pretty busy roads and lakes and rivers next weekend, our Memorial day holiday weekend ushering in Summer and planting season for us in Alaska.
