Home State.
A series of articles exploring my home state of Nebraska. In this series we hope to share with you some of the fun places and hidden gems in Nebraska.

In this weeks post, we head to Lincoln County, to a very small town where I spent much of my childhood.

Hershey, Nebraska - 41°9′29″N 101°0′6″W

The village of Hershey is a small, quiet town. Less than a square mile of land and about 660 people according to the United States Census Bureau.
Hershey began in 1892 and named after the J.H. Hershey an owner in the Paxton and Hershey Land and cattle company. It was incorporated as a village in 1909.

Home of the Hershey Panthers. Hershey is a little town. A quaint little park, a cute little interstate lake. It does have a couple of high production feedlots and farms in the area.

In the last couple of years, the Greenbriar Rail Company built a manufacturing facility along the Union Pacific Railroad.
There is a nice Union Pacific Railroad Caboose sitting in an inviting garden park. Union Pacific Caboose 2563 sits just off Main Street in Hershey.

Butches steakhouse is another Hershey landmark. It’s changed ownership and staff over the years, but this nice little steakhouse is a must visit right next to the railroad tracks.

The Boot and Western Wear store near the interstate is a very nice western store. It greets passersby on the interstate and welcomes folks that come on in.

It’s a town that you might miss if you blink. However, Hershey has a whole lot of heart within it’s community. My grandparents lived south of Hershey. The neighbors were always super friends. The volunteer firefighter department was always fast to respond when help was needed. A big thank you to those folks.

Interstate I-80 travel through town Northwest to the southeast. Highway 30 brushes through the city limits east to west.
