Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

Il pilot si apre con una bara ed una vedova che piange quello che, presumibilmente, è suo marito. All'interno della bara c'è John Paul, marito di Grace, prematuramente morto in circostanze che prima o poi, nel corso della serie, scopriremo.
Sin dal primo minuto capiamo che i contorni tragici saranno sfumati da uno humour molto britannico, molto dark. John Paul, che scopriremo essere il The Prick che da il titolo all'episodio, regala e si regala un'insolita erezione post mortem, costringendo la moglie a coprire i di lui genitali con oggetti commemorativi.
Il cold open lancia l'introduzione delle altre 4 sorelle, Eva, Ursula, Bibi e Becka, ognuna delle quali distintamente riconoscibile nelle proprie fisime e peculiarità sin dai primi minuti.
.
Sempre dissacrante, annoso conservatore, avvezzo alle offese, denigrante, despota e molto arrogante. Una cena di natale, vissuta 6 mesi prima, è la perfetta occasione per indicarci che in JP si nascondono tutti gli stereotipi dell'uomo alfa che mira a soggiogare tutti coloro che ha intorno, egocentrico e narciso e maniaco del controllo.
Grace è la sua vittima. Lei lo ama, ubbidisce, incassa ogni colpo.
Le sorelle provano ad aprirle gli occhi ma lei, come tutte le donne che vivono una vita di coppia cosi innaturale e psicologicamente violenta, nega alle sorelle, e a se stessa, di essere una vittima, di convivere con un ordinario e subdolo mostro.
E' evidente, però, che JP è tossico e tossica, per tutti, è la sua presenza.
6 mesi dopo JP morirà, come sappiamo dal primo istante e come continueremo ad osservare lungo tutto l'arco dell'episodio che si svilupperà quasi integralmente nella giornata del funerale del marito di Grace.
La sensazione che la sua morte sia stata causata o addirittura premeditata ed architettata da Becka, Eva, Ursula e Bibi, cresce di minuto in minuto.

In definitiva, il pilot di Bad Sisters funziona alla grande, complice anche una regia pulita e intrigante ma soprattutto grazie ad una capacità di cambiare registro molteplici volte e costruire, in soli 45 minuti un variegato puzzle di personaggi ordinari e disfunzionali coi quali ci sentiamo, sin dal primo istante, in qualche modo connessi.
Sono personaggi forti ma mai eccessivi, nonostante una delle sorelle abbia una benda da pirata di "KillBilliana" memoria sull'occhio destro, credibili nelle loro esagerazioni, compreso John Paul, rompiscatole insopportabile che potrebbe benissimo essere il nostro, il vostro, vicino di casa.

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see on www.serialfiller.org.

Perfect would be if it were produced by Apple TV Plus?

Bad Sisters is one of the many new shows that have been crowding the schedule, pardon the catalog, of Apple TV Plus in recent months.
Released simultaneously worldwide on Aug. 19 with a pilot titled "The Prick" ("Il minchione" in Italy), Bad Sisters is a series that mixes genres, constantly changes tone, perennially oscillates between the realistic and the absurd while trying to tell, in good substance, a dramatically real and realistic story, namely that of a woman psychologically abused by a husband who controls, dominates, and circuits her every single day without ever, at least not as far as we know, expiring in physical violence.
The title refers to the inner circle of five sisters, one of whom is Grace herself, the woman I mentioned earlier, who are very close to each other and always close to each other, in sickness and in health, until death do them part.

The pilot opens with a coffin and a widow mourning what is presumably her husband. Inside the coffin is John Paul, Grace's husband, who died prematurely under circumstances that we will discover sooner or later in the course of the series.
From the first minute we understand that the tragic contours will be shaded by a very British, very dark humor. John Paul, who we discover is The Prick who gives the episode its title, gives and unusual postmortem erection, forcing his wife to cover his genitals with memorial objects.
The cold open launches the introduction of the other 4 sisters, Eva, Ursula, Bibi and Becka, each distinctly recognizable in her own foibles and peculiarities from the first few minutes.
It takes only a little, in short, to get in tune with the 5 sisters, with the 5 protagonists, and to realize that this show could go in any direction.
The flow of the minutes returns to us, clearly, the image of a very close-knit family but with an enemy common to Grace's 4 sisters.
That enemy is John Paul.
A flashback is enough to understand the motive behind that animosity.
John Paul is presented as an authentic "Prick."
Always irreverent, age-old conservative, accustomed to insults, denigrating, despotic and very arrogant. A Christmas dinner, experienced 6 months earlier, is the perfect opportunity to indicate to us that in JP lurks all the stereotypes of the alpha man who aims to subjugate everyone around him, self-centered and narcissistic and a control freak.
Grace is his victim. She loves him, obeys, takes every blow.
The sisters try to open her eyes but she, like all women who live such unnatural and psychologically abusive lives as a couple, denies to her sisters, and to herself, that she is a victim, that she is living with an ordinary, devious monster.
It is clear, however, that JP is toxic and toxic, for everyone, is his presence.
6 months later JP will die, as we know from the first moment and as we will continue to observe throughout the episode, which unfolds almost entirely on the day of Grace's husband's funeral.
The feeling that his death was caused or even premeditated and engineered by Becka, Eva, Ursula and Bibi grows by the minute.

The arrival of an unlikely insurance detective, who smells a rat in that death and suspects that it was not from natural causes, increases our doubts.
Will JP have been killed?
Did the Bad Sisters kill him?
We won't know and we may not even know in later episodes but the drop of suspicion has just fallen into the pot of our imagination.
Ultimately, the Bad Sisters pilot works great, thanks in part to clean and intriguing direction but mostly thanks to an ability to change registers multiple times and build, in just 45 minutes, a varied puzzle of ordinary, dysfunctional characters with whom we feel, from the first moment, somehow connected.

It could become a kind of modest and indefinable Six Feet Under as well as a b-series show to be forgotten in a few minutes.
I don't think it will become a masterpiece but I'm sure it could occupy an important space in this very rich 2022.
