The Roland JV-2080 is a 64-voice, 16-part multitimbral synthesizer module released in 1997 as the flagship successor to the JV-1080. It features 16MB of internal wave data and is most famous for its eight expansion slots, which can hold SR-JV80 series boards to provide nearly 2,900 patches when fully loaded. Compared to its predecessor, it introduced a much larger 320 x 80 pixel graphic LCD, an improved "Patch Finder" for easier sound navigation, and three independent EFX processors.
Technically, it offers 768 internal patches (including a full GM bank) plus 128 user slots. It includes six outputs (three stereo pairs) and a front-panel slot for M-512E data cards. Because it remains a staple for 90s digital pads, strings, and bread-and-butter sounds, it is a popular item on the used market.
