Celebrating Bitcoin's 10 years

Surely, you know it has been already 10 years since Satoshi Nakamoto published the document Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System, which, to a certain extent, allowed us to not to be under the economical oppresion of the state and gave us the first modern free currency which is not dependent on the government, only on its participants. It was Satoshi's idea to arrange transactions into blocks and secure it with Proof-of-work, and thus he succeeded in creating a concept that solves the problem of double-spending. At the same time, he designed the first open and, above all, censorship resistant payment system, which - if you are a part of it - makes it possible for you to be the real owner of your money. That also has the disadvantage of bearing the personal responsibility when manipulating with your private keys. However, unlike with fiat, you can decide not to be part of this technological advancement.

As described by Joseph Bonneau of New York University, this document has undoubtedly become one of the most influential works in the history of computer science. Blockchain has opened the gates to the previously unexplored places of new innovations (and Steem is also a part of it), and it has become a world-famous phenomenon that is worth the attention it gets.

What may appeared to us as a science fiction more than 10 years ago, is a reality today. I can only express gratitude to Satoshi and I am glad that cryptocurrencies are here to stay. I hope that the technological progress will not stop in the coming years, and maybe in another ten years we may end up not being able to imagine our lives without decentralized digital currencies. But that is just my foolish dream. Probably. :)
