Monomad Challenge : Imbolc

Happy Imbolc (or belated, or early...depending on your timeline). Our family decided to return to my Irish roots a bit and celebrate the age-old solar holiday of Imbolc. A holiday, from what I've researched, celebrated the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox...sort of like "hey, winter's almost done and spring (and life) is starting to slowly come back." What we liked about it was that it was a celebration we could do with our daughter that isn't overly commercialized (and tucked between Christmas and St. Valentine's Day). So here were a few photos I took to share on this very ancient day.

The first two images are of a corn doll I bought on Etsy from an Irish artist. Very cool!

This Brigid Cross that we hung up from in our living room near picture windows facing the south.

My version of the Brigid Cross...I used reeds from a local marsh. Not great, but not bad either.

Finally, a close up of the beautiful corn doll. We'll definitely try to make one next fall here in Wisconsin.

I's sure the neighbors think we are Devil worshippers...oh well. Life is short, and it's always fun to explore very old things. Happy Imbolc to everyone!
