Spitfire Mk XVI TE311
3 quick snaps of the only Spitfire flying with the BBMF at the moment. This aircraft flew in an all black undercoat paint job last year and has just been painted.
The livery is of Polish Group Captain Aleksander Gabszewicz’s personal Mk XVI, TD240, ‘SZ-G’, with its boxing dog nose art.
History:
Delivered to Royal Air Force as TE311, 19??.
RAF Tangemere, August 11, 1955-1967.
- Gate Guard.
RAF Henlow, 1967-1968. - Used in movie Battle of Britain for taxy scenes, 1968.
RAF Benson, September 1968-1977.
RAF exhibition Flight, RAF Abingdon, 1977-1999. - Travelling display exhibit.
- Loaned to SERCO, West Midlands.
- Loaned to Bayeux Museum, France.
- Flew as MK178/LZ-V.
Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight, RAF Coningsby, October 1999-2002. - Arrived dismantled for spares source.
