Friday's Rock! Amazonite

Quartzite strikes again! I picked this beauty up while digging through a pile of amazonite. 

Most of the material was all broken up, but somehow this specimen survived. It appears to have been part of a larger specimen that maybe broke and that is why it was being sold per pound rather than as a specimen.

Regardless, it's a nice piece. The rich, teal blue color is very appealing.

Light boxing it shows over 1/8 " of a gemmy outer layer.

I purchased this and 4 other, smaller pieces. They come from Brazil, but Amazonite can be found many places. Some of the world's best specimens come from Colorado and are often paired with smokey quartz crystals. You can see them being dug up on a great show called Prospectors on youtube. Careful though, it may light a fire in you and turn you into a hardcore rockhound!
