Oils Since Monday and Five Days Into the Deep Clean
Wasting Valuable Homelessness 2026. Oil on paper, 18 x 24"
I’ve managed to get some painting in during the early morning hours while I clean the studio. First time in years that I’ve made this kind of effort. Culling some paintings, setting some aside to paint over, mostly canvas, but some good paper do-overs too. I’m waterproof painting the cinderblock walls and cement floor, and rearranging shelves and tables to open up the space. Just getting it clean is making me feel good. My goal is a very well lit and warm winter studio. I need to install an insulated exterior door, a new sump pump, hang high lumen LED lights, purchase a decent space heater, and make sure all the art is at least 4 inches off the floor in case of flood. I also want to add more character to the outside entrance, such as paving stones and raised beds of colorful perennials, but that will have to wait until Free Art Frees Art starts making a return.
I am smitten with the uniformity of my last 100+ paintings. The size is just right and the paper seems to accept the oil well. I’ll keep this up for another hundred, but then I’ll have to get back to loose canvas. Rose got me a couple rolls back in January for my birthday. Added to my paper stash and all the recycled substrate from Spring cleaning, I’ll be set with painting surfaces for at least 6 months. Unfortunately, I’m running low on paint. Oh well, can’t have everything fall neatly into place.
