She is Rafaela, the new dog of the neighborhood 🐕💛

A couple of weeks ago, a dog arrived at our residence (whom we initially thought was male). My partner and I have a soft spot for dogs that live on the street, and even though we don’t have space at home (since we live in a small studio type annex), we somehow try to help these beautiful beings.

Luckily for us, in the neighborhood where we live, there was already a community dog, so we thought Rafael could also join this opportunity.

So far, we haven’t had any problems taking care of her, giving her some food, water, and even one of the neighbors removed the ticks Rafael had (by the way, that day I found out she was female, so now we call her Rafaela).

Her initial appearance was that of a defenseless animal full of terror, she was very malnourished, had some wounds on her skin, and you could tell that in the place where she was before, she was beaten just thinking about it makes my stomach turn, fills me with helplessness.

In some way, I’m grateful that she came into our lives, because in our worst moments, something that makes us feel good is being able to help someone else, and if it’s an animal, even better.

Little by little, I’ve earned her trust. At first, she wouldn’t let herself be touched, never came close. Now she comes near to be petted before eating what we give her.

By the way, we’re giving her some offal because it’s the only thing we can afford to buy for her. As I said, we’re not in our best financial moment. However, seeing her reaction when I call her with finger snaps is something that fills my heart with joy.
