Paving Round the Fire Path: Recyling Old Plates & Pavers
There's only one way to solve a path full of weeds - throw paving down. I've been wanting to do this for ages - we have had the pavers stacked up for a long time. They came for free from someone in town who was throwing them away and I love recycling old pavers. I'd never buy new ones for this reason.
The path sits in front of the fire bath, and I wanted to pretty up the area and be able to step out onto pavers instead of gravel so it doesn't hurt my feet! And whilst they're all odd shapes and have to go down crazy paving stylie, I could decorate between the pavers with river rocks and smashed plates. In some of these pictures the mortar is still wet, and I'm yet to scrub the excess off, but hopefully you're not a bricklayer or a concretor and picking to bits my lack of expertise.
The plates actually came from a set I got from the op shop. I only wanted the teapot, but I had to take all the side plates and saucers and cups and sugar bowl as well. Whilst I love the colour and the pattern, I really didn't need the extra crockery. I could have taken it straight back to the op shop, sans teapot, but I didn't want to get into trouble with the scary old lady at the op shop who was annoyed at me for even suggesting that I'd take the rest back. So, I took a rock to them instead, and they became a path.
There's also a few little shells and ammonites in there too. I love it. I think it's going to glow really nicely when I put lights all around at night for outdoor bath time.
Now to find free pavers and tea sets to do the rest of the paths....
