NAVIGATING THE WORLD OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL WALLS
One funny thing about learning is that we sometimes don't know it is happening, or that we have learnt something, not until it is time for us to use this knowledge. The Educational system operates on an organised curriculum, where teachers teach their pupils according to a specific lesson plan that rarely changes over time. These curricula are usually guidelines for teachers to follow when teaching their students in a specific way. While this curriculum is enriched with a lot of knowledge to impact the wards, it is usually not enough for anyone to rely solely on the subjects taught at schools.
There are a lot of things I will say I learnt outside the school walls, having the understanding of people living around me, friends, family and coworkers is not something I learnt in school, but something I learnt as I go on with my daily living. One thing i always tell myself is that i can live a peaceful life with anybody in particular as long as it is something i choose to do, people have different behaviors and to live at peace with anyone, one must understand the triggers of the other person, what makes them happy, what makes them sad or angry which will help you know how to live a peaceful life with that person. People react to things differently, and the best way to stay at peace with others is understanding this and also knowing your limits with others.
Practical skills like fixing the sink when it is blocked, the settings on the television set, the use of certain electrical appliances and other household materials, all these and more are things I did not learn from school. While the school provides the basic knowledge and logic, life outside the school provides a practical learning process.
