Creating floor plan drawings from shapes
Hello, checking back in to update my progress on our studio project! My group and I have been narrowing down the final form of the massing. We finalized the cross axis organizing the spaces around a large atrium in the center, see image below. The zig-zagging rooms are prominent components in our design, made up of large studios that open up to one another. The concept is reflective of Lego, in the sense that the program is connected to the main corridor. Also, the small cubes on the bottom left of the axonometric are study areas for students that are more introverted.

The process of creating floor plans requires a lot of going back and forth between thinking 2-dimensionally and 3-dimensionally. Reviewing the program after finalizing the 3D massing typically finds us making the overall area much larger due to mechanical space and circulation, aka hallways. In the image below,

By creating an initial section, seen in the final image below, we start to see the relationship between the first and second floor. This allows us to visualize what the atrium might look like. We are trying to make the center space of the school a hub for collaboration between students. Above the hub we plan to incorporate a separate studying area for individual students.
