World Cup 2026 Ramblings - Final 8 Left

The final 8 teams are freshly out today! And it's getting more exciting! Come to think to it, this means 40 out of 48 teams have been eliminated already.

Previously I got 11 out of 16 winners correct in the Round of 32 predictions. So let's review my Round of 16 predictions to see how many I got right.

• Canada vs Morocco: Canada to win - WRONG
• Paraguay vs France: France to win - CORRECT
• USA vs Belgium: USA to win - CORRECT
• Portugal vs Spain: Spain to win - CORRECT
• Brazil vs Norway: Norway to win - CORRECT
• Mexico vs England: Mexico to win - WRONG
• Switzerland vs Colombia: Colombia to win - WRONG
• Argentina vs Egypt: Argentina to win - CORRECT

Total: 5 out of 8 correct

That was really ouch. I guess that's why they say the ball is round. A little mistake on hindsight for Morocco, but I managed to get the Norway one right!

Once again, just purely for entertainment, let's try to predict the outcome of the quarter final matches! For easy evaluation, I will just pick the winning team regardless at full time or extra time or penalties.

France vs Morocco

This World Cup is actually quite predictable if you were to look at the rankings and the teams left. There was so much talk and controversy over the Argentina vs Egypt match, and then what happened next was that the France vs Morocco match will be referee-ed by a full team of Argentinian officials. While rumours are rumours after all, Morocco can be strong on a good day, I think I smell an upset.. Morocco to win.

Spain vs Belgium

Spain is the only team left that has not conceded a goal in this World Cup. Belgium somehow continues to underperform in major tournaments and this should be a straightaway win for Spain. Spain to win.

Norway vs England

On paper, it's England of course. But with Haaland so on-form, I am not too sure. If they can beat Brazil, they can beat England on a good day too. This is too tough to call, but I will go with the favourites. England to win.

Argentina vs Switzerland

I was expecting Colombia to make it after such strong performance, but the fact that Switzerland qualified, this means that they are not to be underestimated. Argentina has been really shaky all this while, conceding so many goals to lower ranked teams, but as with the rumours go... Argentina to win.
