My learned self, the guide who pulls my poor ignorant self from its own mediocrity, smiles. The one who tells the other:

–You are mediocre. Your other selves are mediocre; and I tell you this because you waste your miserable, mediocre lives vying to be mediocre.

And my expectant self, the one that wants to be dominated by this beacon of light, my learned self, says:

–It's true!

My learned self releases my canned prejudices packaged in ultra-superior thought patterns, my prejudices deconstructed by rational thinking and the study of what the great minds of the past have said, holding court over everything and everyone.

And my expectant self laughs gleefully because it knows its vital beacon, its demiurge of the mundane, is right.

What a repeated and pathetic spectacle! But even before that repeated and pathetic spectacle, I feel even more tenderness for those other selves that inhabit both this body and others.

Mi yo docto, el guía que saca a mi pobre yo ignorante de su propia mediocridad, sonríe. Aquel que le dice a éste:

–Sois mediocres. Los otros yo sois mediocres; y yo os lo digo porque gastáis vuestras míseras vidas mediocres en porfiar en ser mediocres.

Y mi yo espectante, el que quiere ser dominado por ese faro de luz que es mi yo docto, dice:

–¡Es verdad!

Mi yo docto suelta mis prejuicios enlatados en figuras de pensamiento ultra superiores, mis prejuicios deconstruidos por el pensamiento racional y el estudio de lo dicho por las grandes mentes del pasado, sentando cátedra sobre todo y todos.

Y mi yo espectante ríe ufano porque sabe que su faro vital, su demiurgo de lo mundano, tiene razón.

¡Qué espectáculo tan repetido y patético! Pero, incluso ante ese espectáculo repetido y patético, siento aún más ternura por esos otros yo que habitan tanto éste como otros cuerpos.
