The zkEVM Technology

Have you seen this word before but haven’t had the time to read and understand it? Well, don’t worry, I will share some little knowledge I know about this. Been in the crypto space for quite a while and I am still learning some of these crypto terms and how they work.

zkEVM can be broken down into two pieces which is the zk and the EVM. The Zk stands for Zero Knowledge while the EVM stands for Ethereum Virtual Machine. In my previous blog post I have written contents about ZK protocols and how they work, but finding those contents will take a long time, so don’t worry, I will have to explain it again. Zero Knowledge Simply means proving is real or true without giving all the specific details about it. Like proving a person is a boy without revealing why the person is a boy. Or also proving you know something secretive but not spilling the secret. It can also be like knowing the password to your mom’s phone and proving it to your siblings that you know the password by unlocking it in their presence but not showing them the password.

Now let’s talk briefly about the EVM, which is the Ethereum Virtual Machine, it’s the core software that is being run on the Ethereum blockchain. All activities being done on the blockchain is being executed all thanks to the Ethereum Virtual Machine. So when you combine the zero knowledge act of proving something is true without exposing the details on the Ethereum software(EVM) ran on the Ethereum blockchain, then you have the zkEVM. So it’s basically just running smart contracts on doing transactions on the Ethereum Network without exposing details of the transaction.

People that will love this project are people who are a lot more interested in their privacy. We have some projects that are doing this already, check out zksync, it’s an example of a zkEVM, it’s mainnet is life. I don’t know if polygon is an example, but some people put it in that category.
