I've always loved these philosophical questions. Mainly because I've been thrust into several no win situations before in my life:

Most notably this one:

Tell the truth and be hated.
Ignore it and hate myself.

I'm sure many people have faced this same dilemma but aren't consciously aware of the philosophy it represents.

But I always tell the truth. It is easier to be hated by other people than hate myself. I've hated myself for many years in my youth and it's not a good one.

But yeah, in answer to your question I'd sacrifice the one person. Every time.
