JAZZ AND LEGENDS
Since January 26, the city of Havana has become more musical than usual.
The Jazz Plaza International Festival has been giving a new rhythm to our daily lives from that day until February 2nd. I confess myself to be an inveterate jazz lover. It has a lot to do with my way of writing.
Last night, at the Bertol Bretch theater, one of the most emblematic theaters in the Cuban capital, I had the opportunity to enjoy a sample of the most eclectic that this musical genre can offer.
The concert began with the Italian musician Luca Ciarla. Armed with a violin (which he sometimes played as a guitar), a synthesizer and the use of loops, Luca became a musical sea, sometimes serene, sometimes violent, but always brilliant in his musicality. Then the Koreans of Hyo-Jeong Lee Band, a pleasant surprise for their sound and the use of several languages (including Spanish) to fuse boleros (native genre of Cuba) and jazz.
And finally The Ayo Brame Ensemble, a band from the United States that, to play their International Boulevard, invited none other than a legend of Cuban music, Pablo Menéndez. And this is just a tiny fragment of what is happening. Every day, in several locations at the same time, things like this happen. The Jazz Plaza de la Habana is an infallible recommendation for all those who like the improvisational and crazy rhythm of jazz. Who knows. Maybe we'll see you there.
