Summertime Sadness

It's been quite a challenge to get it together to make another episode of Radio Liquorice (bringing you all the licks!) this summer. The band has been busier than usual because of the Jubilee celebrations, and I've been more focused on spending quality time outside on my bike, than on spending another chunk of my life gazing at a computer screen.

But there was clearly a lot of pent-up demand, as we had a pretty long show. The usual Hive suspects were on board, although some of us sent in back catalogue recordings for very understandable reasons, including lingering sickness, and being a local open mic circuit star (cough anna-newkey@anna-newkey)!

We had a new addition to the podcast, as well as a guest spot by the Herts/Beds/Bucks-based rock-and-pop choir Alive & Singing (run by purplesinger@purplesinger), with recordings from their recent end-of-season gig at the Bedford Corn Exchange, which was home to BBC musicians including Glenn Miller during World War II.

There were a few nostalgia recordings from legendary open mics we have had in the area, but a large number of contributors sent in recent recordings of original tunes (including todayslight@todayslight and steevc@steevc) or recent covers of old or newly arranged tunes (inc. myself, daniellemurray@daniellemurray).

Because of the nostalgic vibe, and because we had songs mourning lost family members, a lost dog and lost love, I think it's safe to say there was an air of summertime sadness about this episode. But with plenty of light relief and upbeat tunes in between.

Hope you enjoy it!
