Growing your own cabbage.

Cabbage is a vegetable that can be cultivated in small gardens and most interestingly, food that is grown by you is always very enjoyable and delicious when prepared. This is because the of the self satisfaction that it is from your own farm and thus grown by you.

Growing of cabbage generally reduces the cost of buying as just one bunch can satisfy the family when prepared. However, its cultivation is not too cumber some as it requires water availability(irrigation) and fertile soils.
Its can be planted using seeds or the stalk and has different colors and varieties as well.
By using seed, a nursery therefore has to be made so that after germination the plant can be later transplanted into the main farm.

When this has been done, constant watering has to be done especially during the dry season and this should be morning and evening depending on the nature of soil of the area.
Equally, cabbage can be planted directly into the soil using its stalk. This can be gotten by carefully slicing the leaves one after the other and it is the main stalk in the middle of the crop.
When planted using this method, it germinates fast and is cheaper since it does not require the double stage cultivation but the great disadvantage is that it can be easily attacked by diseases and once attacked, it gets rotten and dies out.
Cabbage thus help in facilitating bone formation or healing and also in the provision of calcium. The vegetable can be consumed with plantain, yams, rice, as well as salad with colored cabbage etc.
Growing cabbage at home is always cheaper, and availability guaranteed as well necessitating the cultivation of of other vegetable crops in our home gardens. Cabbage cultivation can also be done in plastic pots thus contributing in the reduction of plastic pollution in our environment.
