Small Clothes Are Dangerous

ASOS started carrying size 2 clothes, which led to outrage from the general public. Keep in mind that size 2 clothes in the UK are much different from a US size 2 in that the ASOS size 2 features a 22-inch waist, which is smaller than some people's heads. The clothes are found in ASOS's petite section, which is geared towards smaller women.

To be clear, none of these people ever complained about ASOS stocking larger sizes. Instead, they celebrated it as promoting diversity. If you want to stock only your country's average size, good luck having any sort of a customer base. Let ASOS celebrate diversity, even if it's not the popular kind of "diversity". ASOS has a global customer base and that includes smaller, thinner women. Women who were healthy, but fit the new size defended the popular retailer as they were happy to find clothes that fit.

If the issue is that smaller sizes supposedly promote eating disorders, then the issue lies not with ASOS but within the people who need to fit into a smaller size to better their self-image. A clothing size is just that: a clothing size. It's the size of a piece of fabric. Saying that small clothing sizes are dangerous will only backfire in the long run as it reinforces the idea that clothing sizes are a measure of worth or beauty.
