Receiving Death Threats over Makeup
Really, humanity? First the penis paranoia revival in the UK and now this?
Tati Westbrook, a YouTuber and beauty guru, has received death threats from commenters in the above video, which is why she disabled comments and ratings. While it's popular to see this as a coward move, remember that content creators are people first and foremost. Some creators have mental and physical health issues, others have had traumatic experiences, and others just don't want some innocent viewer to get caught in the crossfire.
For a creative community, a certain portion of the makeup community is one of the most toxic, drama-ridden portions of the Internet out there. Sometimes, beauty gurus are worse than politicians in this regard. A few criticisms of some eyeshadow on a channel that is dedicated to honest makeup reviews is what landed Tati in this mess. Seeing that makeup is a thing that can be washed off, reapplied, and is largely harmless (if you're using cruelty-free brands), it's utterly baffling that Tati received death threats over something that most people wouldn't pay attention to.
