From now on I'm going to try to post something creative on Friday. And to start things off, I've got a Pixel Art Voltron that I've been working on and just finished. Well, it's really just a Voltron head... enjoy!

Step 1

The first thing I do on any pixel art is start with an outline. It's just a rough outline really, as you'll see the shape changes as I get further along. This is really just a starting point for me to get the initial idea out.

Step 2

Working on the face outline and keeping things symmetrical. I made that vertical line for this reason.

Step 3

Not a whole lot of difference here, but I'm starting to work on details that I know I'll need later like the nose and and eye lines as well as the teeth of the lion head.

Step 4

At this point, I'm at least happy enough with the outlines and face positioning that I can start to add some color.

Step 5

More color and more face details. I've added detail lines to the lion as well as some color changes to see how the depth will work out.

Step 6

More color. I'm working on getting the basic color palette out here.

Step 7

The basic colors are done, I can now see what I'm working with. I also do a little reshape of the top of the lion head some and add Voltron's mouth.

Step 8

Starting to remove the dark outlines. Things are looking good.

Step 9

Almost all outlines are gone at this point. I also begin to work on some of the shading and and shadowing to add depth to the face. I also increased the size of the eyes... but that doesn't last.

Step 10

I decide that I like the eyes a bit smaller and shrink them a bit. I also add a lot of highlighting lines to the lion head.

Step 11

Some big changes to the chin. I reshaped the chin and the lion ears some. Added more highlights and added more depth around the cheeks. Almost done!

Step 12

Finished up the mouth, added a bit to the chin and added just a few little highlights here and there to sharpen anything I missed.

Step 13

Finally, it's done! I decided to add a more space-like background image just for fun.

ANIMATED STEPS

I grew up watching Voltron and had this idea for awhile so naturally, this was a lot of fun to work on and I'm happy with the end result. I'm somewhat tempted to continue on and do the whole body... We'll see!
