Suet Feeders
For those of us who feed our birds, winter time can be very hard on these guys. I have found that the birds really like having suet as a part of their feed, and can quickly be gone when you have a lot of birds at your feeders. I recently found a good and easy suet recipe that I tried today to help off set some of the cost of suet cakes. It didn't take very much of my time, hopefully the birds will like my cooking.
The recipe is this:
1 Cup Lard or shortening
1 Cup crunchy peanut butter
1 Cup old fashioned oats
1 Cup cornmeal
Melt together on the stove the Lard and Peanut Butter, do not boil. When melted take off heat add oats and stir in then add your cornmeal and stir in. Add your birdseed and/or dried fruits to this mixture.
I placed this in small plastic containers then place in freezer until ready to use. Because I used small containers it did not take long for them to freeze and I had them out and ready for the birds this afternoon.
