The memo field is an incredibly useful tool and I would suggest becoming familiar with this feature on not just hive, but other blockchains as Layer 2 Blockchain is phased in and we proceed onto the development of Layer 3 blockchain technologies.

Encrypting the Memo Field from the Memo Field

1. Sign into Hive with your private memo key
2. Designate a recipient's username
3. Choose Hive or HBD amount (either works)
4. **Begin the memo with "#" followed by your message to the recipient
5. Sign the transaction with your private active key

In order to view the encrypted memo field, the recipient will need to sign into hive with their private memo key.
