Onboarding is Sexy, But Retention Can Be Ugly .:. Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.45 (Wednesday, June 4th, 5 PM UTC)

Talking about the elephant in the room is usually uncomfortable, many times not accepted well, and often ignored... But, it's important to talk about things, even if they are ugly... Ignoring doesn't help with finding solutions, and in my opinion, #HHHLive is a nice place where you can share your views and opinions... I don't expect that we will solve the problem of retention or onboarding, but we can change some ways, bring some new ideas, brainstorm together... Like we did in the last show!

We are all Hivians, in the first place... Being an OG, or being a newbee, shouldn't be something that should divide us, or make us more important than someone else... Sometimes, newbies have a different/fresh view of HIVE, which could be very valuable feedback, and sometimes, a hard pill to swallow... Especially when we, "older" Hivians living in a bubble, think how everything is just fine...

So, what would we talk about in the next show?
There are many onboarding initiatives, some of them more successful, some less... But, most of them are focused on a very specific thing, HIVE account creation! This is fine, but we need to do more if we want to retain those users on our chain... We were talking about "filtering" posts, making HIVE more searchable, and making good content creators more visible, but in this case, we should maybe work more on "filtering" new users, too!

Not all newbies are the same... Not everyone is a content creator, a Splinterlands player, a developer, etc. I mean, a lot of us came in "one role" and continued our journey in a different role... In my case, I came on the chain to play Splinterlands, but when I realized the social side of it, I went into content creation, engagement with the community, etc. All that is great WHEN you are already "hooked" on HIVE... To get there, we need to be more specific...

If you come for blogging, you get accepted by a specific community with your interest... If you come for gaming, you land on a page where you get links to the HIVE games... If you come as a developer, you get on the Hive.IO website... We should have MANY landing pages, specifically "designed" for different types of users...

This is just one point of view, but there are a lot of ways to combat the retention issue, and by sharing views, we can find the best way to do things... Or best WAYS! Please don't fall into the trap, "It's my way or the highway!" We don't want that kind of mindset on HIVE...

In the end, we are all Hivians! We have invested our time, money, and energy into this chain, and obviously, we are rooting for it to succeed! We just have to listen more, accept mistakes, correct them, and do better... Let's talk about RETENTION!
