25 years ago, on 12 March 1999, the Czech Republic joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Before that, NATO had 16 members, today it has twice as many. And after years of peace and comfort, it is now becoming apparent how extremely important NATO is for our security, for the security of our allies and for the security of the whole of Europe.
Unfortunately, the perspective is that the Alliance will have to continue to strengthen its capabilities and continue to prepare for the worst, hoping that it will never happen.
Před 25 roky, 12. března 1999, vstoupila Česká republika do Severoatlantické obranné aliance.
Před tím mělo NATO 16 členů, dnes jich má dvojnásobek. A po letech klidu a pohody se nyní ukazuje, jak nesmírný význam má NATO pro bezpečnost naši, pro bezpečnost našich spojenců a celé Evropy.
Výhled je bohužel takový, že Aliance bude muset dále posilovat své schopnosti a nadále se připravovat na nejhorší, doufajíc přitom, že k tomu nikdy nedojde.
