Bread or roll?

This post is an entry for the 5th round of the #samebutdifferent challenge (or #sbd)

"Want bread or a roll with those sausages?"

This simple question instantly transports me back four decades, to an era when communist hardliners controlled my country. Back then, the choice was always straightforward: bread or a roll - no questions asked, no alternatives offered.

Today, purely for the sake of this article, I wandered into a nearby supermarket to count bread varieties. Baguettes, rolls, loaves, French bread, croissants, pastry pockets... I gave up counting around forty. And I hadn't even made it from the savory section to the sweet one.

I picked up two of the most unremarkable rolls for my #samebutdifferent challenge. Visually, they're carbon copies of the bread from four decades ago. To complete the nostalgic scene, I grabbed some sausages from the freezer.

Retro jak cyp 😊😊 btw ten párek není žádný Burešův kuřecí separát, ale nějaký hrubě mletý s čedarem, od řezníka.

Speaking of bread, I once read that long-term expatriates often claim the one thing they miss most is bread - specifically, a classic, ordinary loaf from home. Personally, I'm skeptical. My longest stint abroad was barely two months, and bread was the last thing on my mind.

So, I'm curious - fellow readers from around the globe: Would your local bread be something you'd genuinely miss during an extended stay overseas?
