Cuauhtémoc, conocido por los conquistadores españoles como Guatemuz fue el último tlatoani mexica de México-Tenochtitlan. Asumió el poder en 1520, un año antes de la toma de Tenochtitlan por Hernán Cortés y sus tropas. Su nombre significa literalmente 'Águila que descendió (se posó).
