Praying for the Dead Seven Days and Seven Nights
How are you, friends? Best wishes to you all, wherever you are.
Customs and culture are still deeply rooted in Aceh, Indonesia. They are inseparable from the Acehnese people. Prayers for the deceased are held for seven days and seven nights.
From the first day after death, prayers are immediately offered by relatives and the community. Tents are set up and mats are spread out for visitors to pray for the deceased. It's simple yet deeply meaningful. Customs and culture are united by a strong sense of community.
Praying also provides comfort to the bereaved family. Anyone is welcome to attend without restrictions. A simple feast is always prepared by the host. It can consist of rice or a few pieces of cake with a glass of water.
However, in this picture, there are no dishes because we came during the fasting month. However, the host still provides food and drinks to take home, placed in plastic bags. This is intended to provide additional rewards for the deceased.
Morning, noon, afternoon, or evening, anyone who comes to pray is always welcomed by the bereaved family. On the seventh night, this prayer ceremony concludes. This is one of the customs and culture of Aceh, Indonesia, that still exists today.
