Life Under the Microscope #5

Hello again.
More from the microscope, but this time I decided to try something other than microbial life.

The first video shows a piece of moss but I had to focus in and out a lot to see the detail. The problem is that I couldn't get it flat enough under the coverslip. With a camera or even our own eyes, we have to refocus when we swap from looking at something in the distance to something up close. This is also true for a microscope even though the thickness of a specimen we are looking at may be only a fraction of a millimeter. Compared to the bacteria specimens I have been looking at, this moss is very thick and so it's not possible to see all the detail clearly. Even so, it looks pretty cool.

Next I put in a couple of filaments from a wattle flower. You can see the bulbous pollen heads on the ends.

This was a little easier to flatten out so the picture quality is better and only slight focusing was required.

Bye for now.
Richard
