Jazz Hands instead of Clapping
Spoke a little about this before in a previous post, something going on in the UK in a university where they ban clapping in favor of jazz hands to be inclusive of people with sensory problems such as those with autism, hyperacusis, deafness and others. They then proceed to say that they want to replace clapping with jazz hands because it's sign language (BSL) for the same thing.
I will openly admit, that yes, it is indeed sign language and it is indeed BSL, and it's also in ASL and many home signing languages as well.
So what does Jazz Hands actually mean? When a deaf person does the jazz hands thing, are they signing that they're clapping? To be honest a very, super small minority of the profoundly, culturally deaf actually do jazz hands instead of clapping, however this accounts for around 0.006% of the deaf population that do this instead of clapping.
So what does the Jazz Hands actually mean? It literally means Clapping, Applause, Fanfare. In essence, this is the exact same thing as giving a standing ovation, but instead of clapping your hands, you literally just say the word "clap" repeatedly with your voice.
It's like asking your girlfriend for a blowjob and she happily obliges, but instead of putting your dick in her mouth and sucking you off, she instead just repeatedly says "Sucking dick" over and over again until you leave frustrated.
It's like saying "I'm going to drive to the store" but instead of getting in your car and driving, you just repeatedly say the word "Driving" over and over again.
This is the problem I have with hearies that know absolutely nothing about sign language trying to say something about the language. It's the "Wet roads causes rain" sort of situation. "Well jazz hands is sign language that's used instead of clapping" no idiot Jazz Hands is sign language for the word clapping, applause and/or fanfare. Not an actual replacement of it.
Allow me to play you the song of my people.
Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music. Music.
Most of you here on Steemit get the picture and understand how absurd the whole thing is. I'm just amazed by the sheer stupidity. And worse still, it makes people like me look bad because people like that diversity chick at that UK university in particular telling lies about us because she thinks she knows what's really going on, what sign language is like, she wants to pretend she knows our language, our cultures, our lives, our struggles and our needs. She doesn't even come close to being able to register what it's like for us. And worse still is that she's making it worse.
Please, if you enjoyed a performance, talk, debate, whatever have you, just clap your damn hands.
