In the month of October of the year 2022, Mother was constantly in the hospital attending to my brother, who had been hospitalized for more than twenty days because of a diabetic coma, which was made much worse by the lack of adequate care in the emergency of the Military Hospital of Caracas.

The poor care at the Military Hospital caused his health to get much worse, so we took him out of Hay and transferred him to the Hospital by Car, where upon seeing his condition, he was urgently sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The doctor who treated us at the Car Hospital, told us that in those conditions the possibility of him reacting was very low and that if he did, due to the lack of attention, he could have had brain damage. But that nevertheless, I couldn't say anything until I did the tests and saw the CT scans and the MRI.
Another thing the doctor told us was that we had to have faith to see if he would react and if he would come out of this situation well.

Richard, was a year older than me, he was blinded by a work accident and for a few years he had been living with my mother, who in addition to caring for and supporting him had become his best friend, since they spent a lot of time together and supported each other.

None of us, not even him, knew he had diabetes. We found out about his illness, since he got COVID 19 and after going through COVID, he was not fully recovering, but feeling worse and worse.
So taking him to the doctor and after a lot of examinations, the doctor informed that he had diabetes and a complication that came from his work accident.

And although my brother started doing his diet, he had very strong ups and downs of sugar, the doctor sent him remedies and asked to do more tests, since he indicated that possibly with COVID, there would be more complications that will start to come out at the same time.

Everything the doctor did was done, however, one day in September 2022, Richard got out of bed, told my mom that he was feeling very unwell, they decided to go to the doctor first thing in the morning. However, half an hour after I had notified my mother, my brother fainted.

A relative was called and my brother was transferred to the Military Hospital in Caracas. We all arrived at the hospital before 6 in the morning. But the doctor's sucker, he attended him at 11.30 in the morning. When the supervising doctor arrived, and saw my brother's case, he made a fuss and said that this situation would have been solved immediately by placing glucose solution, but now, due to the lack of proper care, the patient (my brother) could have irreversible damage.

When I saw that, I made a fuss and got him out of there and we took him to the hospital by Car. He was treated there and transferred to the ICU. The truth was that we were able to solve all the situations, we borrowed money, we got the medicines, the exams, everything. We were just waiting for him to react. After 15 days in the ICU, Richard reacted, but he couldn't speak, his throat was so swollen that he couldn't swallow.

My mother dedicated herself to taking care of my brother, she hardly left the hospital, she refused to let anyone other than her stay with my brother. However, she started to give in a little when my brother's daughter started helping her, so they stayed one day and one day the other.

I would go in the day, help where I could and come home. But in those few hours that I was in the hospital, my mother could come to the house, take a bath, talk to the aunts and their friends and thus, get out of that environment a little.

The doctor the first days of October, he told my mother and my niece that it was impossible for my brother to be saved, he even told him that if he wanted, we should not bring them home so that he would die as a family. A relative who is a doctor, said not to do that, since he had to stay in the hospital and that way it was guaranteed that he would leave without pain.

On October 5th, it was my brother's daughter's turn to stay at the hospital, but she called my mom and told her that she couldn't go, so my mom stayed two days in a row at the hospital. My brother's daughter came down on October 6th, to change the guard with my mom.

My mother, did not want to come home that day, and stayed almost until the end of the afternoon, she was exhausted, in the hospital she slept, like other relatives on mats on the floor. Finally, when he decided to come home after several calls to come to rest, a huge downpour fell in the city, the rain was very heavy and accompanied by lightning.

That caused an electrical fault to originate in the sector where I live, and my mother had to climb the 17 floors to get home, since there were no elevators due to the electrical fault. I prepared his food and a bucket of warm water for him to take a bath. And after eating and bathing, she fell asleep from exhaustion.

That day, on October 6, in a city soaked by rain and without electrical power due to a fault, my brother's daughter called at 7:30 p.m. to tell me that my brother had just died.

She wanted to talk to my mother. However, I decided not to wake her up and let her rest, since the blow was going to be quite strong for her.

I had taken the precaution of taking out my cell phones and disconnecting the local phone, and I also called my aunt to come to the house to support my mother.

In the morning, when my mom got up, she started telling me about my brother, that she still had hopes and everything that a mother full of illusion and hope says in those moments.

I sat down next to her, took away the cup of coffee I had given her. And I looked into her eyes and I said, "No Mom, it's time to be strong, he left last night, my brother is gone."

That has been the worst call and one of the rudest experiences on a sentimental level that I have had to live after a phone call.

Thank you for reading me.
