Visiting the Grotto, Peterborough, Australia

All along the stretch of coastline while visiting the Twelve Apostles, there are little hidden beaches, epic cliffs, and heaps of amazing stops to just pull over and stare for a bit. This post is dedicated to the Grotto.

It’s about 9km west of Port Campbell, and we nearly skipped it since the weather was wet, and windy. But we decided to stop anyway, right before heading out of Port Campbell. Glad we did.

En-route to the Grotto, we saw the humongous waves!

There are some steps to walk, so be sure you can climb!

We made our way down the wooden steps, holding onto the rail trying not to slip.

How's this for a portrait view of Grotto?

There we saw it! This perfect natural window, like a picture frame carved out of the rock, with the sea behind it just glowing. The colours of the rock and the water looked unreal, like something you’d want on a postcard.

It’s part cave, part archway, part something else entirely.

It felt quiet down there, like a hidden spot nobody tells you about. The ripples is especially calming, despite the weather!

Definitely worth the detour. After seeing all the big landmarks, the Grotto felt like a quiet surprise — a last moment of calm before leaving the coast.
