Fried Rice is our Breakfast

IMG_20181209_07545301.jpeg

There are different cooks in the house, some do it as a need, some do it as fun, I do it for discovery

Mama cooks for sustenance. Papa cooks traditional and exotic recipes. Sibling #1 cooks Western cuisines with a twist. Sibling #2 cooks traditional recipes for big and small events. Sibling #3 fry and boil stuff.

I experiment at the kitchen with whatever comes to my mind.

It's quite fun at our home, we don't have a meal plan, we hate monotony. As cooks, we also fight who deserves to cook in a day.

When Mama cooks, we eat modestly, but when Papa cooks, he feeds us good foods and makes us fat as pigs—but, no, were not overweight and I don't know why.

We enjoy eating as we aren't choosy and we eat a lot, food is our love language, but when there is an excess of love, I mean food, that's where I enter.

On occasions where there's excess food from big events or meals from the previous night, maybe it's to little to share or it's too many that it might just spoil, my cheapskate heart boils in fervor.

Fried Rice

I cook! I'd say out loud, early in the morning.

I really don't want food to be wasted and we mustn't buy or cook new meals until all the excess foods are eaten up.

Ingredients

My specialty for this kind of events? Fried Rice! Let no meat be thrown, every piece of it, no matter how small, is precious. And rice? Yes, don't waste rice.

Farmers toils under the hot sun, Papa works exhausted to feed us, and my stingy self continues to murmur inaudibly while the high fire embraces the old wok.

I only use kitchen staples plus some fresh herbs from the garden, here's the recipe:

  1. In high fire, heat the wok
  2. Put oil generously, but not too much
  3. Sauté garlic until golden brown
  4. Sauté onions until transulent
  5. Add meat and sizzle for a minute
  6. Add rice and break it up
  7. Continually mix and scrap rice from the wok
  8. When rice is happy, add a bit of soy sauce, salt and, ground black pepper
  9. Mix and scrape generously for the last time
  10. Serve hot

You really don't need many ingredients for fried rice, not even a secret sauce! It just needs oil, rice, and salt as a base recipe.

What matters is that food is not wasted, food is cooked with love, and food is shared.

Fried Rice

I love to see people eat happy even with just simple meals, and I love it more when they ask for more.

Do you have a cheapskate recipe too? Share it in the comment section below. 😊
