The 10 Most Expensive Cats In The World
There are more than 250 different breeds of domestic cats, and although many are unknown to the general public, look at the pictures, and you will see that they are charming. In general, fanatics don’t tend to spend a lot of money acquiring that family companion, although vet bills are a different story.
- Norwegian Forest Cat
Don’t think this luscious fur is merely decorative. You’ll be amazed to learn that this breed was bred by Vikings some 2,000 years ago.
A Norwegian Forest cat is well prepared to withstand the frosts of a Scandinavian winter and be a great hunter. So, if you have problems with a rodent at home, it could be a good investment.
- Egyptian Mau
The Egyptian Mau is a breed of domestic cat native to Egypt. They are affectionate, but if left unaccounted for, they can become aggressive. It is a large breed with a short, soft coat.
The distinctive feature of the Mau is the mottling of its coat, which contrasts with the background color. The dark speckles should be rounded and evenly distributed, although they are often randomly distributed in broken lines. The legs and tail have bands of darker color.
- British Shorthair
This is an ancient breed that descends from the crossbreeding of the cats that the Romans took with them when they conquered Britain. They are characterized by their beautiful short but dense fur, a calm, sweet and affectionate character, which makes them a great companion at home.
British Shorthairs are distinguished by the beauty of their shapes and a great variety of coat colors, blue being one of the most appreciated. Although it is a widespread animal in Great Britain, for a puppy of this breed, with pedigree, up to 1,500 dollars can be paid.
- Scottish Fold cat
Originally from Scotland in the United Kingdom, the Scottish Fold is a cat with a medium bone structure and great musculature. Its head is very rounded, with small ears, flat and short nose, and protruding cheekbones.
Its coat is short and of varied colors. It has a friendly character, which makes it a much-appreciated pet. A specimen of this breed can cost up to 3,000 dollars.
- Sphynx Cat
The sphynx cat is characterized by the apparent absence of fur and its slender and slender appearance. Although they appear to be hairless, they do have hair. All their skin is covered with a layer of very fine, short, and even hair, almost imperceptible to the eye or touch.
Their exotic appearance and gentle nature, together with their blue eyes, make them highly sought after by cat lovers, especially in Canada and the United States, where there are excellent breeders of this breed. In these markets, a pure sphynx kitten can cost up to 3,500 dollars.
- Russian Blue cat
It is one of the oldest and most recognized domestic cat breeds in the world. They are medium-sized, silvery short-haired animals, easily distinguishable from other varieties.
The Russian Blue is famous for being intelligent, affectionate, and for enjoying contact with humans. In both Europe and North America, a puppy of good pedigree can fetch up to $3,500.
- Peterbald cat
It is a new breed, originally from Russia. It was developed in 1994 by crossing several breeds, and its main characteristic (lack of coat) is due to the “Russian gene for hair loss”. Its name is a tribute to the Russian city of St. Petersburg – founded by Tsar Peter the Great.
They are animals of slender appearance and medium size, with varying degrees of baldness. Some are almost completely bald, but there are also varieties with very short hair. Their character is calm, although they demand a lot of attention from their owners. The price of a Peterbald kitten in first-world countries is around 5,000 dollars (always with a good pedigree).
- Bengal Cat
It is a breed of domestic cats created to resemble wild felines such as leopards or cheetahs. It has a docile character and likes human company; conditions that added to its imposing presence make it an exotic and very desired pet.
Believe it or not, a Bengal cat kitten with an excellent pedigree and a coat identical to that of a leopard can be sold for around 25,000 dollar
- Allerca Hypoallergenic Cat
Due to the allergic reactions that cats produced in many people, breeders and geneticists joined forces to look for a solution, and the biotechnology company Allerca assured people that they had found it. From there and during many years of breeding, they assured that they had achieved a new generation of cats.
The Allerca was a harmless cat for allergic people. For this reason, this variety – not recognized by any association as a “breed” – was scarce and difficult to obtain, and also very expensive: a specimen certified by the firm Allerca (United States) could be auctioned for up to 50,000 dollars.
- Ashera Cat
It is an exotic cat, very rare, the result of the creation of Lifestyle Pets, a biotechnology company that had its origin in Allerca, creator of hypoallergenic cats, which closed in 2006. The Ashera is a hybrid feline, a cross between a domestic cat, the African serval, and the Asian leopard.
They began development at the beginning of this century and today it is a well-defined variety, although it does not yet enjoy official recognition as a breed. It is one of the largest specimens. It weighs up to 15 kilograms, is of strong build, with several types of the coat of extraordinary beauty, a strong character, and great independence. The Ashera Royal variety is the rarest and most exclusive. It has a cream-colored coat with black and orange spots or stripes. For an Ashera Royal, you must pay 100,000 dollars (or more).
