Kayaking on Lake Superior, Canada

Have you ever kayaked on Lake Superior?

It’s quite incredible.

You might have to wait a few days to get a perfect calm day but if you are in a sit on top you can try the waves. They get big. Very big. It’s like the Ocean on some days.

Lake Superior is by far the deepest of the Great Lakes. The Water is clear, cold and clean.

A wavy day on Superior. If you have a sit-in recreational kayak you have to be very careful that you don’t take on water since you will quickly lose balance and tip with the next wave.

We lean back and make sure we are nose 1st into the waves.

Lake Superior Provincial Park is about 2 hours North of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We make the drive up every summer to camp out along the East and North Shore of the Big Lake.

Please note: Reservations and Interior Camping Permits

Camping reservations are not available at this park. All campsites are first-come, first-served.

Interior camping permits are required for backcountry camping at Lake Superior Provincial Park. Permits can be purchased online up to two weeks in advance of your arrival date.
Permits may also be purchased at the park office, Agawa Bay and Rabbit Blanket campground gatehouses, the Visitor Centre at Agawa Bay, and several cash-only self-serve fee stations along the highway corridor.
