Danger From Above

As we were having a look around St. Martin's Cathedral (better known as the Dom Church) in Utrecht, The Netherlands, we were being watched from above by strange creatures:

These gargoyles are found on old churches all over Europe. They often have a spout designed to convey water away from the side of a building, but their shapes traditionally illustrate evil; they provided images and symbolism for a largely illiterate population.

They still look slightly scary today.

It took some doing to get rid of the perspective distortion you get from photographing upwards, but I think I pulled it off.
