Buzzards Are Back from Winter Migration
Recently I have welcomed back the Common Buzzards (Buteo Buteo). While these birds of prey don’t always migrate and in some parts of Europe stick around year round, it’s not the case in my neck of the woods.
The buzzards are the most plentiful raptors in Central Europe. Their calls can be heard quite often yet they completely disappeared sometime in mid fall.
But even though we still get sub zero temperatures at night, I was happy to hear their calls again as they returned from their migration to the warm climates.
The very first trio of Buzzards flew over my head while I was in deep woods and on a steep slope. I did not have a clear view of the sky to get a good shot of them, but I made up for the lack of better footage in the following days. In this video I share the clips I recorded over the past week or so.
The Common Buzzard is 51 to 57 centimeters long and has a wingspan of 113 to 128 centimeters. The wings are relatively wide. The relatively short tail is rounded off at the end.
Welcome back, Buzzards.
