#RandomChina #3: Sleeping sweeper

I arrived in Shanghai exactly one week ago. It's been really nice so far. Not too hot, lots of rain to cool down the place and to get rid of the smog, and lots of nice new people to meet.

And of course, lots of new things to explore. I came across this sight on my way to the office just now. Too beautiful not to share with all of you.

Pretty much every street is cleaned by someone, using a metal chart they drag along to collect waste. Mostly waste, but also leaves and other trash they happen across. They use brooms made of branches. There are really a lot of them, and as a result streets in Shanghai are very clean. Unless you come close to one of the points where the street sweepers deposit their swept up rubbish. It's better to avoid those places because of the smell. And due to the heat, the rotting fruits and waste will often be pouring over into the street. Not a nice sight. And a much less nice smell, I can tell you that.
