Microsoft x Activision

Smart play by Microsoft.

By buying Activision, Microsoft didn't just buy the games Call of Duty and Candy Crush... they also bought the platform that built those two games.

Funny how Activision bought Candy Crush a few years back for $6 billion by acquiring King Digital, and now they're selling the whole company for 10x more.

But most importantly, the King Digital acquisition helped Activision usher into the mobile gaming world, since King Digital was mainly focused on mobile games.

Due to that acquisition, Activision was able to create a mobile version of Call of Duty in 2019.

Enter Microsoft.

This is a metaverse play for Microsoft. Instead of solely relying on Unity, the Activision acquisition enables Microsoft to now have their own platform to build games upon.

With Microsoft entering the metaverse space, along with Meta and NVIDIA, competition is heating up, and this is a good thing! However, it will likely take at least a few years for widespread public adoption. Therefore, long term play here.

What are your thoughts on Microsoft entering the metaverse? Now that they own Activision-Blizzard, will they turn World of Warcraft into a metaverse? Comment down below to get some ideas going.

See you in the next post.
