Buckfastleigh, Southwest Devon, England

Up in the lanes for an early stroll, catching the sun rising above the town and golden light across the hills.

Buckfastleigh is built in some places on top and along the River Mardle, a tributary to the larger River Dart at the bottom of the valley. It used to be a main power source to all the ancient woolen mills, the towns original industry hundreds of years ago

Buckfast Abbey, famed for the Bucky Wine, stands just next and adjacent to the smaller town again of 'Buckfast'. They're kinda the same place, on different sides of the hill. The Abbey is very old, hundreds of years, and incredible to behold.

Local fauna in the sub-tropical climes of summer

There is an old steam railway station, where you can still take rides which supports the running and restoration of these amazing old steam locomotives. A short walk, this is the view on the road to the station (suitable for pedestrians).

My humble abode, the cheapest flat I could avail myself to with room to rent on the side. Stained glass above the front door which opened straight onto the main street aka 'Fore Street'. Convenient, with pub, park, public footpaths and post office nearby.

The river Mardle running behind the property and just back from the main street, which used to power water wheels back in the day.

The River Dart in all it's black and white gothic splendor, much has been written about this river, the highways which run along it are famed for legends stretching back Captain Jack, the notorious highway robber ...

Daffodils burst into life on the forest floors and along other available flowerbeds and planters all around, come the Spring time. Come summertime they are gone once again, until the following Spring.

The River Dart, this time in color. The waters run down from Dartmoor and the geology is rich in iron, being on the whole a lot of granite and slate. This turns the whole riverbed a rust-red color most visible in the shallow sections such as here.

Historical small town and beauty spot

Here are 10 unique photos taken around this small quaint ancient town, a place where I was (sorta) lucky (yet unlucky) to have spent most of the UK 'lockdown' residing. Around me very lush countryside and picturesque views, things could have been a lot worse.

How I'm finding Liketu!

I like it - for photo essays!

Having enjoyed the experience of using the Liketu interface to showcase photo essays, I have come back to post here again. I guess the only compromise is not having as much control over the entire post layout, however the way photos are presented in a gallery makes it ideally suited to purpose. Therefore, I think I'll use it for those times I want to share some photo work which already took a lot of time and effort in producing (going there, trekking, shooting, etc) and words can be more limited, whilst giving some more regular visual treats we all crave! I'll continue with longer format story posts using the main Hive.blog or Peakd interfaces.
