Paul Morphy dijo alguna vez "el rey es la pieza más débil en el tablero", y tuvo razón, debido que de ella depende el juego y además, debe ser defendida, veamos la siguiente imagen.

Es bastante sencillo de entender, vemos que ambos reyes está bien protegidos, sin embargo mi rey (blanco) es más pasivo, en un final donde se supone deben en su mayoría no haber damas en el tablero, los monarcas se convierten en piezas de ataques, tienen mayor actividad y dependerá de la habilidad del jugador, ganar o entablar la partida, en la primera partida que juego de haber llegado a un final yo tendría mayor dificultad para acercar a mi rey al centro del tablero que es el lugar donde debería estar en un final de juego.
