the wreck
dead on the edge of the road
her truck rocks and rolls and rocks
in the wind driving up wild from the rolling smoking burnlands below
dawn awakes
dawn tries to stand up
dawn staggers like sadness incarnate
across the fireblasted canyon
brush in one hand bourbon in the other
yellow and orange in all the wrong places
orange and yellow everywhere
it’s a wreck
i’m a wreck
who is she?
will she notice me?
will she like me?
will she watch the drunken dawn with me?
no
it’s too late
the damage is done
it’s a wreck
i’m a wreck
don’t notice me
don’t notice me
i’m nobody
