Next level technology
The United States has just presented a chip capable of continuing to function at the heart of a nuclear reactor, in an environment where heat melts metal and radiation destroys even the most resistant circuits, and this was at the University of Maine where researchers developed sensors made with nanometer-scale materials that use an architecture that remains stable even when exposed to intense radiation.
The result is a device capable of operating for days inside the reactor, collecting data in real time, something that until now was impossible. This is the first technology in the world capable of accurately measuring the power of a reactor at 800º, guaranteeing safety and efficiency in extreme environments.
In tests conducted at Ohio State University's nuclear research laboratory, the chips worked for a conceptual 7 days without failure; no conventional circuit would have lasted even a few hours. This is important, because the world is about to enter the era of new generation reactors, smaller, more efficient and that operate at much higher temperatures than traditional models and until now there were simply no sensors capable of accompanying this evolution.
AI
Can you imagine operating a nuclear reactor without reliable measurements,
Without reliable measurements there is no way to control the heart of the reactor, and with this new technology, engineers will be able to detect any irregularities instantly, preventing accidents and reducing maintenance costs. This technology can also be used without rocket engines, geothermal plants, hyparasonic turbines, even space probes, where sensors must resist temperatures and radiation close to the limit of matter.
