Planning Retirement
To be very honest, I never really enjoyed working in my 9 to 6 jobs. In my mid 30s itself, I had started planning about my retirement. That idea of working till 60 never went well with me. I had set a target for myself that maximum I would work will be till I am 50. It seems my manifestation was very strong and I quit my job in my early 40s itself to move with hubby when he got a job here in Muscat. After which I never worked in a full day job. I did continue working but in part time jobs.
That routine and the daily grind of long working hours was killing me; there was no much life left after work. And that was not how I wanted my life to be. Being an HR in a MNC means long working hours and there's just no escape from it. Also, I would see other older people in my office who were working and I could see how burned out they were with their jobs. Majority of the times they were only grumbling and complaining about life and I did not want to see myself there.
I had many hobbies also which I wanted to pursue but with the job it was extremely difficult. I wanted to spend more time learning about alternative healing therapies and also practice it. I wanted to travel more, I wanted peaceful slow time for myself, wanted to spend more time on Yoga and Meditation but with the job all of this was only a fight.
That's true that not everyone can quit their jobs; there are bills to pay. But then my thought then was that anyways I have to retire at 60, so why not I plan things in such a way that I can retire a couple of years early. This was while Muscat was not in sight. I set my retirement age for 50 with this thought and making a detailed saving plan. I donโt know if I would have not shifted here to Muscat, would I had been able to stick to my plan. Probably yes. Maybe I would have continued doing something part time like how I am doing now.
Life is not all about work, but that's what we make it.
