Our first vegetable harvest on the farm : tinda (apple gourd harvesting)
Hello friends !
collage made by canva
This year is special for us. This time we make our own farm where we grew some vegetables...And now finally the time has come when the fields are completely full and green and lots of vegetables have grown.
The first crop to be planted is that of tinde also known as apple gourd , round gourd, indian squash. The scientific name of tinde is praecitrullus fistulosus. We also grow many other vegetables like cucumber, ridge gourd and beans. But today i want to share all details about our first harvesting vegetables: apple gourd.
The best time to grow this vegetable is February to April. But we grow it in the month of end of May. And in 2 months Our harvest is ready. We have plucked a lot of tinde since the August staring. Due to the rain, 10-15% of the crops in the area were damaged but the rest of the area did well.
This whole crop is the hard work of my father-in-law, hubby and care taker. I go there once or twice a week. And now when it is harvesting time it feels really good to go there.
Every time we plough so many vegetable and it gives really immense happiness.
First time i get to know about the hair on the apple gourd/ tinda. Because these last for some time after plough....after that these disappear.
So Whenever we are bought from the market we don't get to see this. Truly, when we grow vegetables we get to learn a lot.
The plant grow on the ground horizontally. Because they are creeper plant with weak stems . In hindi language we said bel to vine . So here you can look closely the bel (vine) .
Tinda is a vegetable with round shape and the outer skin color is green or yellowish. The surface is hard with lots of hair, and inside it is soft with seeds.
The leaves of the vine is big and flower colour is yellow. It is a lot of fun to search for tinda under the leaves... everytime feels like we get jackpot ๐๐.
Last time we got so many tindes. Once the pod comes out, it takes very little time to grow up...The next day they will grow a lot...So it is best to plug them in medium size on time.
Here you can see the space among all stems. Tinda needs good sunlight, so proper space is necessary to for good air and sunlight. So it is good to grow in raw with proper space.
Here you can see the glimpse of the field area and how we find the tinda for harvesting ๐ :
Hope you enjoy this first harvesting from our farm. I love to cook vegetables comes from the farm directly. It is really fun to cook them. I will share some recipes soon :โ -โ )
Thank you so much for your time, support and love ๐ค๐ธ
