Rare Flower
This is a really poor image of a very rare flower. Most people who live in this area, where it grows natively, will live their lives never having seen it.
It’s commonly known as “Wild Ginger” and its Latin name is Asarum Canadense. It’s an understory plant in mixed deciduous/coniferous woods on Vancouver Island where I live.
Its leaves are broad and kidney shaped and grow from rhizomes that creep around the ground and pop out these hard to find reddish-brown sexy flowers.
The reason the photo is so poor is that it was taken years ago with technology of the time. I’m sure I could get a better pic now with my iPhone
But it seems my patch is no longer there. I’ll have to find another one.
