8 Legs and 8 Eyes!

A few recent spiders!

A large wolf spider, well camouflaged on a leaf, though it's quite dramatically visible from directly in front! I had accidentally startled it as I was moving though the field, thankfully, from it's point of view, the perfect hiding spot was a great portrait spot too!

Are two images enough to convey movement?

I am particularly happy with how the "safety" line of spider silk catches the light. Jumping spiders such as this usually lay down a line of silk when they jump, it protects them from falling great heights and if necessary they can use it to have a controlled decent or even climb back up to where they jumped off.

Love their big eyes! She is 100% looking at the camera! As well as to the sides and even behind!

A female Adansoni Jumping spider that visited the living room:

Most photos of jumping spiders are from the front, they tend to track moving things and pay particular attention to other jumping spiders, even if it is just a reflection of themselves in the front element of the lens. In the above photo however, the spider was looking off-camera and this gives us a great view of the side and the lateral eye, it's the small one in the middle. 2 pairs face forwards and are used for hunting, the rear and side facing eyes are mostly used for spotting movement and potential threats!

She has such wonderful colour patterns!
