Measure Twice, and Pour Concrete Once

Work has been absoloutely crazy around these parts lately. The entire City is under construction it seems. The other day, we were getting ready to pour a concrete slab (that's built like a tank) for a mass-transit triggered road widening upgrade. There's a crazy amount of steel in the ground here, and it shouldn't be going ANYWHERE for the next 60~70yrs. Which is why you need to double, triple, and quadruple check that everything is in the right place before pouring the slab. Check the formwork for drainage. Check the rebar for spacing and cover. Check the steel for appropriate sizing. Check the soils for bearing capacity.

If there any young engineers / engineering students out there -- feel free to ask some questions, and I'll do my best to answer. I've been meaning to share a bit more about what I do for work -- as I feel that civil engineering is an important and often overlooked gig.
